On a Sunday morning, Kaleo, Brian, Ryan and I began our long, tedious hike into Moanalua Valley. The hike starts at Moanalua Valley Park. We began our trip up a old road used by Father Damian back in the days of the lepers. About 2/3's of a mile you will see the trail to father Domains house to the left. I believe before marker 5. I never really paid any attention, this being my fourth time in the valley. Anyways, once we made it to the end the road, the Kulana'ahane, we took a much needed rest, seeing that three out of the four of us drank the previous night. hahaha. A group a boy scouts were right on our heels so we gathered our things and got on our way. Pretty much the rest of the way till the summit ridge is contouring a stream bed. Much like the Waimalu Ditch trail in Aiea. Lots of beautiful orchids and native Hawaiian plants along the way. Once we hit the summit ridge, approx. 45min I believe, it was pretty much cake compared to previous hikes. 20min, and we were on the summit trail. We took a short rest, and a few laughs once the scouts made it up. I give it to the kids. Champs. After our breif rest we headed left up the narrow, steep, untreked ridge toward Godek. On the ridge you have a great view of the H3 and Kaneohe town all the way to Kaneohe Marine Base. Definite must see. On this ridge we contoured the edge, and when I mean edge, I mean if you fall you end up in another town. Haha. I was a little scared to tell the truth, but it was super fun. We contoured wash outs, and brittle rock sections, which on day may be impassable. Pretty much a scramble the whole way up. Thanks to Brian and Kaleo for the bushwhacking, it made the whole trip easier. Once on Godek, we rested up for the hell that was to come. Godek is one trail that I and Kaleo despise. Just at the whole meandering thing. Constant ups and Downs, humid, hot and scarce wind areas. I will never forget the time me and Kaleo did the Godek trail from Bamboo ridge. NEVER AGAIN is all I'll say. On the way back, after about 5 or 6 peaks, we got to the junction back into the valley. Steep and narrow the rest of the way down, then the road. One hour on road.... then once we saw the gate happiness set in....
